The effect would be more convincing if it ran at a higher rate, but at 60 Hz it looks pretty flickery. This was a very common technique on old games to achieve an illusion of transparency. The way the test works is that it flashes the shadow on and off during alternating frames. The drop shadow test is supposed to flicker.
